Retriever Digital Signage has plenty of professionally designed templates, but if you have designs that you have made in Canva, it’s easy to add them to your Retriever, too! There are several ways to use your designs from Canva on your digital signage.
How to Use a Canva Video on Digital Signage
A video would be best if your Canva project
- is a video
- is a presentation with multiple slides
- has a lot of motion graphics
Video Step 1
Download Video from Canva
With your design open in Canva, click the “Share” button in the top right corner. Click the option to “Download,” select “MP4 Video,” and click the large, purple “Download” button.
Video Step 2
Upload Video to Retriever
Log in to the Retriever and go to the media library tab. Click the “Add media” button and upload the video that you downloaded from Canva.
Video Step 3
Add Video Slide to Playlist
Navigate to the playlist where you want to add the video slide, and click “Add a slide” and then “Add From Template.” From the template manager, select one of the video templates and add it to your playlist. In the slide editor sidebar, you can select the video from the library. Save and publish the slide.
How to Use a Canva Image on Digital Signage
A still image would be best if your Canva project
- is a single page/slide
- does not have video or motion graphics
Image Step 1
Download Image from Canva
With your design open in Canva, click the “Share” button in the top right corner. Click the option to “Download,” select either “PNG” or “JPG,” and click the large, purple “Download” button.

Add Image Slide to Playlist
Log in to the Retriever and navigate to the playlist where you want to use the image. Click the “Add a slide” button and then “Add From Template.” From the template manager, select any of the picture templates and add it to your playlist. (Tip: The “Single Picture” template is good for showing Canva designs as the entire slide.)

Upload Image to Retriever
In the slide editor sidebar, click “Change image” and then “Add New”. Upload the image that you downloaded from Canva. You may adjust other settings, then save and publish the slide.
How to Use a Canva Embed Code on Digital Signage
An embed code would be best if your Canva project
- is a single page/slide
- needs to be updated regularly

Copy Embed Code from Canva
With your design open in Canva, click the “Share” button in the top right corner. Click the option to “See all,” and select “Embed.” Click the large, purple “Embed” button, and copy either the “HTML embed code” or the “Smart embed link” — both work with Retriever!

Add Embed Slide to Playlist
Log in to the Retriever and navigate to the playlist where you want to embed your design. Click the “Add a slide” button and then “Add From Template.” From the template manager, select the “Canva Embed” template and add it to your playlist.

Paste Embed Code to Retriever
In the slide editor sidebar, edit the “Canva Embed Code” field and replace it with the code that you copied from Canva. Click “Save and Return” to see your design in the slide. You may adjust other settings such as “Aspect Ratio” or “Duration,” then save and publish the slide.
How to Use a Canva PDF on Digital Signage
A PDF would be best if your Canva project
- has multiple pages/slides
- does not have video or motion graphics
PDF Step 1
Download PDF from Canva
With your design open in Canva, click the “Share” button in the top right corner. Click the option to “Download,” select “PDF Standard,” and click the large, purple “Download” button.
PDF Step 2
Add PDF Slide to Playlist
Log in to the Retriever and navigate to the playlist where you want to use the PDF. Click the “Add a slide” button and then “Add From Template.” From the template manager, select one of the PDF viewer templates and add it to your playlist.

Upload PDF to Retriever
In the slide editor sidebar, click “Change pdf” and then “Add New”. Upload the PDF that you downloaded from Canva. You may adjust other settings, then save and publish the slide.
